Benefits of Vyayama (Exercise)

Who should not do Exercise
- Those who are having Vata and Pitta humor related disorders should not do Exercise. [ ( Osteo Arthritis is a Vata disorder so Exercise without complete cure of disease may worsen the condition) ( Jaundice is Pitta humor predominant condition, in this disease also exercise is not permitted)]
- Children before attaining the walking Milestone , parents initiated strenuous workout is not suggestive.( Practice of walking , Crawling etc are natural processes , compelled workout is not suggestive)
- Old aged people with diseases, are not supposed to do strenuous workouts.
- People who are suffering from indigestion are also not indicated for exercise
- Exercise immediately before having food and immediately after having food is not suggestive .
- Pregnant ladies must avoid exercise.
Activities associated with physical effort, done with an intention to sustain or improve health and fitness is called as Exercise. In the Ayurveda Textbook AshtangaHrudaya Soothra Sthana , Guru Vaghbhata had explained the importance of exercise. In this modern world lot of variants are available for us to do exercise ( Sports, Gym, Aerobics etc ). In this note I would like to explain the Ayurveda Aspect of Vyayama or Exercise.- Activeness

Who should not do Exercise

- Uncontrollable Thirst
- Debility
- Breathing disorders
- Bleeding disorders
- Tiredness
- Cough, Fever and Vomiting etc can be caused due improper and over exercise.
Exercise done in proper and required manner is good for the body , but if done in excess can hurt the body . According to Ayurveda half of the strength of an individual must be used for doing exercise and proper relaxation and stretching must be done before and after working out. Oil massage and hot water bath is good for those who do exercise. Oleation and bath should be taken only after the complete settling of sweat. Diet of the people those who do exercise must be natural ( natural food is suggestive for all, because it is healthy) and should be a balanced diet .
