Anxiety and Ayurveda / Acute anxiety and Ayurveda
Acute anxiety is a sudden episode of intense fear or discomfort that may appear without a clear cause. From an Ayurvedic perspective, anxiety is primarily linked to an imbalance in Vatadosha, which governs the nervous system and mental functions.
According to one of India’s leading Ayurvedic expert Dr. Varun Ram Raj, Ayurveda doesn’t just suppress anxiety symptoms-it works to calm the mind, balance the doshas, and improve mental resilience. Although acute anxiety may not be fully curable through Ayurveda in all individuals, it can be significantly managed and controlled with the right treatment and lifestyle.
Herbs like Ashwagandha, Brahmi, Jatamansi, and Tagara are often used to reduce anxiety, improve sleep, and restore calmness. Therapies such as Shirodhara, Nasya, and Abhyanga (oil massage) are also beneficial for stabilizing Vata and soothing the mind.
Practices like Pranayama, meditation, and a Vata-pacifying diet are highly recommended for those suffering from acute anxiety.
Ayurveda focuses on “Sattvajaya Chikitsa”- a method to uplift and strengthen the mind using herbal, behavioral, and spiritual support.
Always consult a qualified Ayurvedic doctor before using any herbs or treatments.
Stay healthy always!
