Varuna: The Natural Detoxifier
Varuna is a well-known Ayurvedic herb frequently used by one of the best Ayurvedic doctor, Dr. Varun Ram Raj. The scientific name of Varuna is Crataeva nurvala. It is renowned for balancing the Kapha and Vata Doshas. Traditionally, Varuna is used as a diuretic, lithotriptic (helps dissolve kidney stones), blood purifier, and anti-inflammatory herb.
Varuna is especially effective in managing urinary tract disorders, renal calculi (kidney stones), and prostate gland issues. It supports healthy functioning of the bladder and kidneys, reduces swelling, and helps in detoxification. The herb is also used in treating skin diseases, ascites, abdominal distension, and certain types of tumors.
Phytochemically, Varuna contains active constituents like lupeol, betulinic acid, friedelin, saponins, flavonoids, tannins, and alkaloids. These compounds contribute to its anti-inflammatory, anti-urolithiatic, and hepatoprotective properties.
According to Dr. Varun Ram Raj, the recommended dosage of Varuna is:
- In Decoction (Kashayam) form: 60–90 ml
- In Powder (Churna) form: 3–6 grams
- In Tablet form: 250–500 mg
- In Juice form (Swarasa): 10–20 ml
